WHY SHOULD YOU ATTEND?

The National Offender Workforce Development conference has become one of the pre-eminent think tank/ brain-trust conferences in the country addressing the issues of re-entry of our formerly incarcerated citizens. Each year this conference attracts professionals form over 40 states and 3 countries to present workshops, participate in town hall meetings and network with each other.

Professionals from the area of law enforcement, legal, workforce development, hospitals, community-based agencies, state and local governments all attend this conference. Known for its innovative approach to conference delivery, the National Offender Workforce Development Conference has become a “must attend” conference for many professionals nationally and internationally. Our conference scheduled for April 16-19, in Los Angeles is shaping up to be the most widely attended conference to date.

We are thrilled to announce that the National H.I.R.E. Network part of the Legal Action Center in New York, New York has joined the National Offender Workforce Development Conference as co-sponsor. As one of the nation’s outstanding advocacy and information clearinghouse organizations, National H.I.R.E. Network has helped to solidify the National Offender Workforce Development Conference as one of the most responsive and relevant re-entry conferences held each year. Along with Productive Workforce Development, National H.I.R.E. network will plan all aspects of the 2008 and future conferences. CONFERENCE TRACKS

This year’s conference will introduce a new format for the conference workshops. We have divided our workshops into conference tracks. This will assist you in selecting the workshops that will be the best choice in gathering the information and skills you require to best serve your clients and interest. The conference tracks at the 2008 conference will consist of:

California Re-entry Programs & Policies
This track will highlight key programs and approaches to re-entry being delivered within the host state of California.

Women & Incarceration
This track will highlight programs and policies that impact women offenders, their families and the community at-large.

Research & Academia

This track will focus on the data, trends and theories related to the areas of re-entry, behavior and its impact on the public safety of communities and resources.

Workforce Development
This track stays true to the founding principles of the conference that effective workforce programs are the key to breaking the cycle of recidivism. This track will highlight programs that have a proven record of success in training placement and retaining their clients after placement

National Best Practices: Advocacy & Faith-Based Initiatives
This track will highlight successful faith-based and effective advocacy efforts form throughout the country.

Special Emphasis: International Approaches to Re-Entry
Each year we have the honor of welcoming professionals from outside the United States to discuss their countries approaches to re-entry and how they have addressed and overcome many of the barriers in their country.
